About Us

I began showing dogs with a German Shorthaired Pointer named Tie. He was my first show dog, and other than the dogs I grew up with as a kid he was my first dog, the first one that was all mine and registered in my name. He finished his championship in three weekends handled by myself as a complete novice. I was incredibly nervous to show, but made myself go in the ring and over the years have gotten pretty good at it. Tie was also my first obedience dog and he completed his CD quickly with good scores and a high in class win. He ended up as Int Can Ch Seadrift's Black Tie Affair CD CGC.

Once bitten by the dog show bug there was no turning back and Riley, another German Shorthaired Pointer soon joined Tie. She came from New Mexico and was to be the foundation bitch for Braebrook, the kennel name I had decided on and registered with the Canadian Kennel Club in 2002. She was small but had a great side gait, was very clean coming and going  and had a great pedigree. I also showed her a couple of times in the US garnering a major as an owner handler in tough west coast competition. She ended up as Ch Marvel's Causin' a Riot. When I decided to breed Riley I chose a male in the Southern US, and he actually came up to stay with me and be shown to his Canadian Championship. His name was Am/Can Ch Delta's Who's on First, call name Abbott, and he finished with a third in group win. From that breeding came four puppies, one became a Can Ch with multiple puppy in group wins, and one became an Am Ch with a 5 point major at a specialty in CA. Of the other two puppies, one was pointed in Canada and one went to a pet home. Both could have finished their championships.

Due to some big changes in my life I was forced to find homes for Tie and Riley, it was a very hard thing for me to do but they went to wonderful homes where they were loved and adored.

Once things had settled in my life and I met and married my husband Chris and we had purchased a home with a small acreage I started again looking for a dog. I had always loved Dobermans. Their noble, sleek outline and incredibly loyal and trainable temperament had always drawn me to them. I wanted to start showing again, and  I contacted Cherie Holmes of Holmrun Dobermans to see if she might have something available. She said that she did as she had kept back two bitches from her current litter to see how they might come along and would be willing to sell one of them to me. That is how Lexi came to live with us. I did show her a little but she really didn't enjoy it and didn't turn out to have the conformation needed for a show dog. She showed much more aptitude for the obedience ring and I trialed her to her CD. She is now Holmrun's Glitterbug Bruda CD CGN.

With Lexi not turning out as a show dog we decided to add London to the family. London's show attitude more than made up for Lexi's lack of it and she finished very quickly with breed wins over specials, and shown for a weekend as a special she did get a group placement as well. There is nothing London won't do for food and that quality always makes for a very good show dog. London is now Ch Holmrun's Bo Jolais Braebrook CGN. We are training in obedience and she will be trialing soon.

London was bred to Am/Can Ch Heartwood's Jewel of WM Wranch WAC "Dirk" for her first litter. Dirk has many US and Can Best in Specialty show wins as well as many group wins in the US. From that breeding came eight puppies, five of which are now Can Champions, with one going Best of Winners at the Canadian National and another going reserve Winners Bitch at the National. One of the puppies also has his CGN and another is pointed towards his championship. The litter was a great success and I am very proud of them.

London was also bred to Am/Can/Thai Ch Holmrun's Beau Regard CGN "Beau" for a second litter. The litter didn't produce great show dogs, but it did produce loving companions to which their owners can well attest.

While surfing the internet one day I came across information on Modadobe Kennels in Australia, and was incredibly impressed by their beautiful bitch Grand Champion Modadobe Testa Rossa WAC "Yancey". Yancey was exactly what I wanted to produce in my own breeding program, absolutely stunning. She even won the Australian Dobermann National.

After many e-mails, phone calls and Facebook chats, Yancey's beautiful daughter Phoebe came to live with us in Canada. She finished her championship very quickly with a best puppy in group win and has since been home growing up. She will be back in the ring as a special in 2011. She is Ch Modadobe Sunset Dreaming.

London's daughter Ch Braebrook's Coco Chanel Holmrun was bred to Ch Holmrun's Fred Astaire in 2010. The breeding produced three lovely male puppies, one of which I kept, and two others who have gone to show homes. They aren't yet old enough to show but have great potential. Braebrook's Hennessy "Bravo" is the male that I kept from the litter and he will be making his show ring debut this spring.

Since meeting Cherie Holmes with the original purchase of Lexi we have become very good friends and while doing some extended dog sitting for her in 2010 I had the pleasure of living with Safi, a lovely black American champion bitch who I fell in love with. While the other dogs who were with me went back Safi remained and became my dog. She will be shown to her Canadian Championship this spring. She is currently Am Ch United's First Edition.

There are lots of big plans for Braebrook's future. We are continually fighting the banning of cropping and docking, this will have a huge effect on the breed as a whole, but we remain positive and continue forward. I want to thank all my puppy owners, without you there would be no Braebrook. The wonderful homes you provide are the backbone of my breeding program. I enjoy every single e-mail, phone call , photo and anecdote. Please keep them coming!

Dogs are truly my passion. I enjoy every part of having them from planning breedings, studying pedigrees, showing and training to the messy side of cleaning and poop scooping. I am continually striving for my ideal Doberman, a dog that can win in the show ring, trial in the performance ring and field, snuggle with my children, protect my home and most of all live long and healthy lives. I intend to do it as long as I'm able.
